Ingredients & Transparency
We believe you should know exactly what you're putting on your skin, and understand it. Cosmetic ingredients must be listed under their international INCI names, which can look unfamiliar, so here is everything we use, explained in plain English. Nothing hidden, nothing padded.
Nettle-Infused Oil
Two ingredients: Olea Europaea Fruit Oil and Urtica Dioica Extract.
In plain English, that's organic extra virgin olive oil and Irish nettle. The olive oil is the base of our slow infusion. The nettle is grown, hand-picked and infused on our certified organic family farm in North Leitrim.
That's the full list.
Nettle-Infused Balm
The balm blends our nettle infusion with a small number of plant oils, butters and waxes. Each one is there for a reason.
The heart is our own nettle infusion (Urtica Dioica Extract), made on the farm.
The base is a blend of everyday plant oils chosen for softness and richness: olive oil (Olea Europaea Fruit Oil), coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera Oil), sweet almond oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil) and castor oil (Ricinus Communis Seed Oil).
The structure comes from shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Butter) and beeswax (Cera Alba), which give the balm its body and form a light protective layer on the skin.
The scent is lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia Herb Oil), sweet orange (Citrus Sinensis Oil) and lemon balm (Melissa Officinalis Leaf Oil). Nothing artificial.
The keeper is vitamin E (Tocopherol), carried in a sunflower-derived ingredient (Helianthus Annuus Seed), which protects the natural oils from oxidising.
The full INCI list appears on every product page and on each label.
Our packaging
Both products come in dark pharmaceutical-grade glass. Light is one of the main causes of natural oils deteriorating, and dark glass shields the contents, helping each product stay at its best for longer. It costs more than plastic. We think what's inside deserves it.
How our products are tested
Every Améa product is independently assessed by a qualified cosmetic safety assessor and laboratory tested, including efficacy research with the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR), before being notified on the EU Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP) and placed on the market. We built the compliance in before we launched, not after.
A note on essential oils
Essential oils contain naturally occurring components that are listed on each product label in line with EU labelling rules. As with any new skincare, we recommend a patch test before first use: apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and wait 24 to 48 hours.
