FAQ
Why choose Améa?
Améa was created for people who want to simplify their skincare. Instead of a different product for every purpose, we've developed carefully considered multi-use botanical skincare that fits naturally into everyday life.
Our nettles are grown on our certified organic family farm in North Leitrim, hand-picked by three generations of our family and slowly infused into organic extra virgin olive oil before becoming the heart of our Nettle-Infused Oil and Nettle-Infused Balm.
Are your products tested?
Yes. Every product undergoes an independent cosmetic safety assessment before it is placed on the market.
Our formulations have also undergone laboratory testing, including efficacy research with the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR), together with additional testing by specialist laboratories. All products comply with the EU Cosmetics Regulation and are notified on the European Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP) before being placed on the market.
What can I use the products for?
Our Nettle-Infused Oil and Nettle-Infused Balm are designed to be genuinely multi-use. Many people choose to use them as part of their daily skincare routine on areas such as the face, lips and body, as well as after shaving, after spending time outdoors or whenever skin feels dry and in need of everyday care.
Use according to your own skincare routine and individual needs.
Are the products suitable for sensitive skin?
Our products have been formulated with carefully selected ingredients and have been independently safety assessed. As with any new cosmetic product, we recommend carrying out a patch test before first use.
If you have a diagnosed skin condition or concerns about suitability, we recommend seeking advice from your healthcare professional.
How do I patch test?
Apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and wait 24 to 48 hours before wider use. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
Are your products vegan?
The Nettle-Infused Oil is vegan. The Nettle-Infused Balm contains beeswax and is therefore not vegan. We never test our products on animals.
Why did you choose nettle?
For two reasons: what it is, and where it grows.
Nettle is one of Europe's most studied traditional plants. It is naturally rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, vitamins such as A and C, and minerals including iron, silica and magnesium. In recent years it has attracted serious scientific attention: peer-reviewed laboratory studies have reported the antioxidant activity of nettle extracts and explored their ability to help protect skin cells from oxidative stress, as well as their wider potential in cosmetic applications. That growing body of research is why nettle earned its place at the heart of every Améa product, and why we went on to test our own formulations in the laboratory rather than taking the research on trust.
And it grows at home. Rather than importing an exotic botanical from the other side of the world, we chose the plant that has always grown wild on our certified organic family farm, valued locally for generations.
Where do your nettles come from?
Our nettles are grown on our certified organic family farm in the hills of North Leitrim. They are harvested by hand by three generations of our family before being slowly infused into organic extra virgin olive oil.
Where are your products made?
At home, in Ireland, from start to finish. Our Nettle-Infused Oil is prepared in our dedicated production unit in County Leitrim, where we oversee the infusion and production process ourselves.
Our Nettle-Infused Balm is also made in Ireland, by our experienced Irish cosmetic manufacturing partner, using our own formulation and in accordance with the EU Cosmetics Regulation. From the nettles in the field to the finished jar, Améa is grown and made in Ireland.
How do you approach the environment?
We'd rather show you what we do than reach for big words. Our nettles grow wild on our certified organic family farm, without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, and travel only as far as our own production unit. We harvest by hand, make in small batches to avoid waste, keep our ingredient lists short, and package in dark glass, which protects the product and can be recycled or reused.
As we grow, we'll keep choosing the most responsible options available to us, and being honest about them.
I have an allergy. Can I use Améa?
Please read the full ingredient list carefully before use. If you have a known allergy to any cosmetic ingredient, or if you are unsure whether a product is suitable for you, we recommend speaking with your pharmacist or GP before use.
There's a white layer on the balm. Is it still okay?
Yes. This is a natural phenomenon known as wax bloom, which can occur in products made with natural beeswax. It doesn't affect the quality or performance of the balm and will soften naturally when warmed by your fingertips.
Can I use the products during pregnancy?
Our products are cosmetics intended for external use. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under the care of a healthcare professional, we recommend discussing any concerns with your GP, pharmacist or midwife before introducing any new skincare product.
How long will delivery take?
We aim to dispatch orders within 2 to 3 working days. Typical delivery times are 1 to 3 working days within Ireland and 3 to 7 working days for the UK and EU.
Can I return a product?
Yes. Unused and unopened products may be returned within 14 days of delivery in accordance with our Refund Policy. For hygiene reasons, we cannot accept returns of opened cosmetic products unless they are faulty.
How can I contact you?
Email us at hello@ameaskincare.ie. We aim to respond to all enquiries within two working days.
